August is when law school students, who are returning to school, get feedback from their employers. Whether you were summering at a law firm or working elsewhere, you will likely be receiving an evaluation at an exit interview. Law students aren’t the only ones dreading the exit interview. Supervisors dread it too.
What’s everyone dreading? The moment that they either have to give or get negative feedback.
Getting negative feedback is never fun. But exit interviews aren’t all bad news. As a future lawyer, exist interviews can give you great insight into your strengths and areas for improvement. As an employer, these interviews can help you too.
If you are heading into an exit interview, or about to conduct one, we recommend you check Joseph Grenny’s article “The Key to Giving and Receiving Negative Feeback” in the Harvard Business Review.
